Ubuntu 24.10 “Oracular Oriole” Reached End of Life Today

Ubuntu 24.10 EOL (End of Life) is here—Oracular Oriole officially reached its end of life today. This means it will no longer receive security updates or official support. If you’re still using Ubuntu 24.10, it’s time to consider upgrading to a supported version like 24.04 LTS or 25.04.

Ubuntu 24.10, codename “Oracular Oriole”, has reached end of its life. Users are recommended to either upgrade to Ubuntu 25.04 or install Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

Ubuntu 24.10 is the last Ubuntu version released in October 2024. It’s a short-term release with 9-month support cycle.

The developer team has announced the 24.10 end of life few weeks ago.

Ubuntu announced its 24.10 (Oracular Oriole) release almost 9 months ago, on 10th October 2024 and its support period is now nearing its end. Ubuntu 24.10 will reach end of life on 10th July 2025.

From now on, Ubuntu team does no longer provide update for this release. And, most PPAs and app developers will stop updating for Ubuntu 24.10. Meaning your system will getting outdated without security patches to protect your device and data.

Upgrade to Ubuntu 25.04 or Install Ubuntu 24.04

Ubuntu 25.04 “Plucky Puffin” is so far the latest Ubuntu release features GNOME Desktop 48, Linux Kernel 6.14, and recent toolkits. It’s a short term release with support until January 2026. And, you may follow the official guide to upgrade to 25.04.

If you just want a stable system for long time use, then Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is a good choice with support until 2029 (plus 5-year Expanded Security Maintenance until 2034). And, the iso image is available to download at releases.ubuntu.com/24.04/
