Skype packages not available in Ubuntu default repositories that means the apt get command not working for its installing.
In this tutorial, we are going to use two methods for installing Skype:
To Install Skype using .deb package, run the commands below to install required packages:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install apt-transport-https wget Next, run the wget commands to download the latest .deb file of Skype:
wget https://go.skype.com/skypeforlinux-64.deb After downloading, run the command below to install skype:
sudo apt install ./skypeforlinux-64.deb You need to run the above command as root or account with sudo privileges.
The above command installed and add Skype official repository in your ubuntu system. If you want to check the repository file, run the commands below as shown below:
cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/skype-stable.list The command will display a output similar as below:
deb [arch=amd64] https://repo.skype.com/deb stable main To launch skype, open the Activities –> Dashboard and look for the Skype, select it and Launch it.
You can also install the Skype on Ubuntu using Snap package management. It is the fasted way to Install Skype on Ubuntu.
To install the Skype via snap, run the commands below:
sudo apt install snapd
sudo snap install skype --classic That’s all
